House in the Alentejo Coast
An apparently infinite woodland on the Alentejo coast designed by Aires Mateus Architects.
Amongst pines trees, a stone plateau as a scale that may no longer be interpreted as a courtyard. The house embraces a wide area of trees surrounded by a recognizable solid border.
The 180,000 sqm property concept centers on the desire to enjoy a perfect circle that embraces the surrounding scenery.
Simultaneously, it fully opens up to the vast Alentejo sky. Additionally, the widest side of the house forms a water tank by connecting geometric shapes.
Inside, the compound is characterized by light. Indeed, the sophisticated connection between courtyard, walled garden, and white mass relies on the ah!38 birail and trirail solutions.
In this context, the smooth operability and elegance of these systems make this harmony possible. Moreover, the relationship between exterior and interior depends on light, defining volumes, spaces, and objects.
Each area is united by a line of light, which harmonises the opposition between the solid limit and the idea of circular absence embracing the surroundings.
