Book presentation brings together voices from
architecture & photography: Erieta Attali & Kengo Kuma

at panoramah!’s new factory designed by Eduardo Souto de Moura

Event with the presence of Erieta Attali & Kengo Kuma

On May 1, 2026 at 18:30, panoramah! will host the presentation of Centro de Arte Moderna Gulbenkian, a photography book by Erieta Attali, published by ArchiTangle. The event will take place at panoramah!’s newly inaugurated factory space, designed by Eduardo Souto de Moura.

The publication offers a rich and multilayered exploration of the recently renewed Centro de Arte Moderna (CAM) at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon. Through photography, essays, and in-depth conversations, the book documents the transformation of the museum and its evolving relationship with landscape, architecture, and time.

Erieta Attali

At the heart of the book is the work of Erieta Attali, whose images capture the building not as a static object, but as a shifting presence shaped by light, atmosphere, and memory. Her photographic approach reflects what she describes as an “archaeological way of seeing,” where architecture is revealed gradually through duration rather than a single definitive image.

Kengo Kuma & Vladimir Djurovic

The project itself, led by Kengo Kuma, reimagines the CAM through the introduction of the engawa—a transitional space that dissolves boundaries between interior and exterior. This architectural gesture reconnects the building with its surrounding garden, reinforcing a central theme of the book: the inseparability of architecture and landscape. Landscape architect Vladimir Djurovic, landscape architect, complements this vision with a garden design that prioritizes ecological continuity and native biodiversity.

The publication also includes a critical essay by Ana Tostões, who situates the Gulbenkian complex within the broader history of modern architecture in Portugal, highlighting its role as a cultural and urban landmark since the mid-20th century. Conversations with Seng Kuan and Andres Lepik further expand the discourse, offering insights into the conceptual and material decisions behind the project.

Architecture, landscape, and visual representation

The launch event will feature several of the book’s contributors, creating a unique opportunity for dialogue around the intersection of architecture, landscape, and visual representation.

Attendance is free, with prior confirmation required via email at communication@panoramah.com.
